The apparent contradiction of the image is that Columbus’ voyage proved that the Earth is spherical. With the help of Toscanelli’s map, he proved that the flat Earth theory is wrong, that the Earth is not like a plate. Although the flat Earth theory was actually never accepted in scientific circles.
